OUR COMMITMENT TO CHILD SAFETY
At Safety Zone Driving School, the safety and wellbeing of young people comes first.
Safe, respectful and culturally inclusive training environments are provided for all learners, with particular care for those under 18. A zero‑tolerance approach applies to abuse, harassment or conduct that is inappropriate in any form.
Safety Zone Driving School proudly complies with Queensland’s Child Safe Organisations Act 2024 and the Queensland Family and Child Commission's 10 Child Safe Standards, embedding child safety into leadership, policies and everyday practice.
Young drivers are encouraged to speak up and be heard. Trainers actively involve families and carers in the learning journey, while cultural safety for trainees from all backgrounds is upheld at all times.
Driving schools that work with children must implement the QFCC Child Safe Standards.
If we provide services to learners aged 17 or under, we must demonstrate how we meet:
· The 10 Child Safe Standards, and
· The Universal Principle of cultural safety.
Compliance requirements are being phased across Queensland, with more than 40,000 organisations required to comply.
Screening, Suitability & Accreditation
Safety Zone Driving School applies strict screening and accreditation requirements:
✅ Blue Card (Working with Children Check)
All driver trainers who work with children hold and maintain a valid Blue Card.
All driver trainers are accredited with the Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) under Queensland regulations.
Trainers complete regular child‑safety and safeguarding training aligned with the QFCC Standards.
How We Put the Standards into Practice
1. Leadership, Policies & Code of Conduct
· A clear Child Safe Statement and Child Safety & Wellbeing Policy, including a strict Code of Conduct setting expectations for in‑car and online behaviour.
2. Empowering Learners & Engaging Families
· Learners are informed of their rights before lessons begin.
· Clear, safe ways to raise concerns or complaints (including anonymously).
· With consent and in line with privacy laws, families may receive lesson and safety information.
3. Safe Physical & Online Environments
· Dual‑control training vehicles and safety equipment.
· Professional boundaries in all communications (approved channels only, appropriate language and contact times).
4. Child‑Focused Complaints & Incident Response
· Simple complaint pathway: trainer → driving school administration → external bodies, if required.
· Serious matters are reported to Queensland Police.
· All concerns are handled confidentially, respectfully and promptly.
5. Continuous Improvement
· Annual self‑assessment against the QFCC Child Safe Standards.
· Ongoing review and strengthening of our safeguarding practices.
Every Safety Zone learner has the right to:
· Be treated with dignity, respect and fairness.
· Feel safe during every lesson.
· Speak up without fear of penalty or disadvantage.
· Have concerns taken seriously and handled confidentially.
· Access a parent, carer or support person, if needed.
